Hearing and Seeing

nowadays, 3G technology is common on cellular phones. 3G allows cell phones users to talk to and see each other through our screens on their mobile. phones.
did you know that it was a Filipino scientist who made the first videophone? Dr. Gregorio Y. Zara invented the two-way television telephone or videophone in 1955. Dr. ZAra also invented an airplane engine that ran on alcohol instead of fuel. He successfully tested and flew his alcohol-fuelled airplane engine at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in September 1954.

Dr. Zara invented more: new designs for solar water heater, sun stove, solar batttery, and a microscope with adjustable stage. He also helped in designing a robot called Marex X.

For his important contributions to science, Dr. Zara was awarded in 1966 the Presidential Gold Medal and Diploma of Honor for Science and REsearch, and the Cultural Heritage AWards for Science Education and Aero Engineering.

This Animal Has Healing Powers

Allan was telling Mario about his favorite superhero. "My favorite superhero is Wolverine. He's a member of a X-Men and he has claws and unbreakable bones. But what I really like about Wolverine is that he has super healing powers. He can get cut, and he will just heal right back," said Allan. "Yeah, Wolverine is cool!" said Mario. Teacher Patty was listening to them. So she came over and joined in their conversation. "Did you know that there's super healing powers?" "Really?" said Allan and Mario. "That animal is called the newt, and it's an amphibian. It looks like a lizard. What's amazing about the newt is that can it can grow back a leg. It can get its leg chopped off and it will grow back in a few weeks," said Teacher Patty."Wow! Even Wolverine can't grow back his leg if it gets chopped off. How to do it, Teacher Patty?" asked Allan. Scientists are studying newts so they can find out the secret of theire super healing powers. They still haven't figured it out," but they're working on it," said Teacher Patty. "It would be great if humans could heal like newts. It would be almost like having super powers," said Mario.

Monkeys Know How to Fish

Aside from seagulls, what other animals catch fish for their food? Monkeys-yes, ther are "fishermonkeys." Researchers from The Nature Conservancy in East Kalimantan and North Sumatra provinces of Indonesia discovered a species of silver-haired monkeys that fish on rivers for their food. The silver-haired long tailed macaques had been known to eat fruit and forage from crabs and insects, but not fishing on rivers. The researchers spotted these monkeys scooping up fish with their hands and eating along the riverbank.Erick Meijaard, one of the researchers, said that these silver-haired macaques are survivor species, which have the knowledge to cope with difficult conditions and shifthing food sourses. Agustin Fuentes, a profesor of Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame in the United STates, was not surprised of this behavior. He said that the long-tailed macaques are very adaptive animals. Fuentes had seen similar behaviors in Bali, where he had ovserrved many long-tailed monkeys in paddy fields foraging for frogs and crabs. He said that the macaques ability to thrive in urban and rural environments in Indonesia and northern THailand could offer lessons for endangered species.

We look at so many primate species not doing well. But at the same time, these macaques are doing well. we should learn what they do successfully in relation to other species.
